The definition of “hosting” doesn't describe a particular service, but a variety of services which offer numerous functions to a domain address. Having a site and e-mails, for instance, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most people think of them as one single service. The truth is, each and every domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain address. As an example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud hosting package from our company, you will be able to view, create and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. As long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you will be able to change particular records via our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails pointed to another provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name in any way. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with only a couple of mouse clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, allows you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to update any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with full control over all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
